Harrisonburg Fire Department Presents: Safe Kids Day!

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Families convened at the Dream Come True Playground to enjoy ice cream, participate in the Touch-a-Truck event, and gain valuable safety knowledge for the upcoming summer months as part of the collaboration between the Harrisonburg Fire Department and Safe Kids Day.

Tori Tucker, who works as HFD’s risk reduction education specialist, mentioned that instructing parents about car seat safety and other crucial safety details remains essential as individuals prepare for the summer travel period.

As summer intensifies, everybody heads off on various getaways, journeying across the nation. We simply want to inspect car seats and encourage folks to pause and verify their travel routes and the specific states they will be passing through, since every state has distinct regulations regarding child safety,” Tucker explained. “It’s crucial to ensure compliance with each state’s laws.

Tucker emphasized that when families go to the pool or beach this summer, parents should keep an eye on their children and ensure they wear life jackets. Because it can happen in just moments where kids become vulnerable to injury.

Tucker emphasized that they have an upcoming event scheduled for July 9, which is part of HFD’s Smoke Alarm and Free Pizza night. During this event, participants can enjoy a complimentary pizza from Cicis Pizza, and members of HFD will visit their homes to inspect their smoke detectors.
