Spring Hill Officials Loosen Food Truck Regulations, Paving the Way for Expansion

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — The trend of food trucks has gained traction throughout Middle Tennessee. In response, officials in Spring Hill are taking steps to support these mobile eateries.

Mayor Matt Fitterer of Spring Hill informed News 2 that food trucks began becoming increasingly popular starting around 2022, prompting the city to receive more inquiries about their operation. Prior to this change, Spring Hill’s rules permitted just a single food truck per designated location.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen revised certain zoning regulations and laws, enabling groups of two or more food trucks to establish an area similar to a courtyard. This allows locals to enjoy various culinary experiences at one location conveniently.

This transformation has been anticipated for quite some time; new regulations now offer clear guidance on the locations where food truck operators are permitted to serve meals.

Fitterer stated that food trucks provide a distinctive dining option and that the previous rules did not align with what the community desired.

As Spring Hill experiences growth in its population, construction of the new fire station nears completion.

Our regulations simply did not align with what our customers—or our citizens—were expecting,” Fritterer stated. “Thus, we aimed to slightly update the code and become more attuned to how that sector has evolved over time.

Fritterer aims to make the City of Spring Hill a supportive ally for nascent local enterprises. His objective with these revised regulations is to create more chances for community members to explore various dining options.
