Weather Delays Disrupt Memorial Day Travel Plans

JOPLIN, Mo. — Motorists are taking to the highways throughout the Four States region as they prepare for the Memorial Day weekend.

Today, we stopped at the I-44 welcome center in Joplin to check out what visitors had observed on the highways and understand how the weather influenced these journeys. Several travelers embarked on their trip along the interstate earlier this morning after navigating through Missouri. Interestingly, some of those we talked to mentioned that they hadn’t encountered significant weather-related issues during their travels.

However, a party of visitors from Oklahoma claims that the weather caused delays in their departure for an unexpected birthday celebration and Memorial Day trip.

“We departed quite a bit later than planned due to the severe storms earlier today. It caused some delay, though nothing too significant,” stated Machenzie Anderson, Shawn Blanck, and Deacon Nelson, who are traveling together.

The family mentions that they have approximately three more hours left for their journey and intend to closely monitor the weather conditions during travel.
