(NEXSTAR) — Stephen Leatherman, the coastal scientist and professor also known as “Dr. Beach,” has announced his selections for the best shores in 2025.
This year, a shoreline on Long Island in New York led the yearly rankings, surpassing the usual favorites which have typically included beaches from Hawaii or Florida in past years.
A specialist suggests that traveling during summer could surprisingly cost less to some places.
“Located on the southern coast of Long Island, New York, Coopers Beach is nestled within the picturesque village of Southampton and protected from the chilly Labrador currents,” as stated in a description shared with Dr. Beach.

As the original ‘Golden Shore’ of the nation, Coopers Beach spans several hundred yards and boasts fine, granular white quartz sand. Behind this expansive shoreline lie massive sand dunes adorned with American beachgrass, punctuated by luxurious estates.

Regarding the remaining entries on the 2025 list, Wailea Beach in Maui and Poipu Beach in Kauai secured the second and third positions among Hawaiian beaches. The top 10 also included additional shores from New York and Hawaii, along with some in Florida, South Carolina, and Massachusetts.
