Record-Breaking Forecast: Over 1.38 Million Georgians Set to Embark on Long-Distance Memorial Day Journeys

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) — According to AAA, they predict a historic number of travelers will hit the roads this Memorial Day weekend, marking an uptick of about 45,000 compared to last year’s figures.

Over 45.1 million individuals across the country are anticipated to journey during the Memorial Day weekend, which is an increase of 1.4 million compared to the previous year’s domestic figures. The highest number of travelers recorded for this holiday weekend occurred in 2005 when 44 million people took trips of at least fifty miles away from their homes.

People in Georgia and South Carolina can expect less congested roads beginning Friday, May 23, since neither state’s department of transportation has planned any route closings or construction activities that would disrupt travel.
