TSA Implements New ID Policy at Bradley Airport: What You Need to Know

Windsor Locks, Conn. (WFSb) — Passengers departing from Bradley International Airport on Wednesday morning received an advisory to reach the airport ahead of time, due to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) implementing stricter identification rules under the federal Real ID Act.

This policy change, which has been under development for many years, is part of an extensive national security enhancement initiated based on suggestions following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Although significant delays weren’t noted on Tuesday morning, passengers could have observed alterations at the security screening areas.

The TSA and Department of Homeland Security personnel were present to assist in expediting the procedure.

Travelers without a Real ID-compliant license, identified by a star, will be rerouted to a different queue for extra security inquiries.

Even though these passengers can still get on their planes, the procedure might require additional time.

TSA representatives report that approximately 70 percent of Connecticut residents already possess a Real ID.

Accepted alternative forms of ID encompass valid U.S. passports as well as military IDs.

Dan Velez, the TSA New England spokesperson, stated that the personnel at Bradley and other nearby airports are completely ready for the changeover.

Our federal security directors have equipped our transportation security officers for this,” Velez stated. “Our team will be prepared and adequately manned.

Individuals without a Real ID are advised to book an appointment at their local DMV office or a nearby AAA location for obtaining one; however, availability might differ depending on the region.

Currently, the implementation of Real ID requirements doesn’t stop passengers from getting on their flights. However, authorities have encouraged everyone to stay informed about these modifications and adjust their plans as necessary.
