DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Bucks County Writers Workshop has published the latest issue of their literary journal titled “The Neshaminy Journal.” This spring/summer edition delves into tales encompassing the history, current state, and potential future of Bucks County.
Here’s a selection of what awaits within the pages of the newest edition of the journal:
- Considering both aspects of his persona, Eric Mintie appears as though pulled directly out of a surreal piece of literature. On one evening, you might find him performing onstage as a jazz pianist, only to see him transform into another figure entirely the following night when he ventures off to historical edifices, unpopulated woodlands, or similar locales notorious for peculiar occurrences—therein adopting the role of a supernatural sleuth. In his comprehensive feature on Mintie, managing editor William J. Donahue delves deep into Mintie’s fixation with ghostly presences, mythical creatures, and UAPs, which stands for unidentified aerial phenomena.
- In an intriguing essay, Don Swaim delves into the tumultuous history of the Molly Maguires, a clandestine organization from the 1800s composed of Irish-Americans who were at odds with the harsh truths of the Pennsylvania coal sector. By highlighting the extremes and unfairness resulting from unrestrained American capitalism along with the relentless fury of workingmen striving for fundamental rights, Swaim’s piece echoes through time, resonating with issues from both yesteryears and today.
- Included as well is a memoir by Carl Reader recounting an impactful show by the late Philadelphia singer-songwriter and rock icon Essra Mohawk, performed at John and Peter’s Place in New Hope, one of Bucks County’s renowned music spots.
Additional highlights:
- A delve into the controversy surrounding the notorious Lenape Stone by Kerry Stickelstadt
- An article about VAMPA, the Vampire and Paranormal Museum located in Bucks County
- An interview with the painter Jay McPhillips from Bucks County
- A profile of the prolific writer from Pottsville, John O’Hara
- Two tales from the renowned Christopher Morley, who passed away later.
- Poems by Talia Borochaner, Mary Grace Mangano, Arlene Geller, Claire Hadida, and Cheryl Salerno
