The city of Greensboro celebrated the start of one of the largest projects coming to downtown in years.
The long-awaited
AC Marriott
hotel broke ground Monday, marking the next chapter in downtown Greensboro’s growth.
The plan encompasses constructing an eight-story hotel at the intersection of Eugene Street and Bellemeade Street. This structure will feature 150 guestrooms, commercial spaces for retailers, along with approximately 350 residential units.
This initiative forms part of an extensive plan to broaden Downtown Greensboro’s influence past Elm Street. Local officials and members of the community believe such developments indicate the future direction of Greensboro.
“I think the best days are ahead, you know, you could argue we are not like this city or that city, and I’d argue those cities are reaching their pinnacle as far as what they can be. Greensboro, Guilford has their best days ahead, that’s why I am putting money into this community,” Roy Carroll, CEO of Carroll Companies, said.
The building will feature a rooftop restaurant called the Bristol, which aims to bring new dining options downtown, especially on days when others are closed.
The construction of the new building is anticipated to last between two and two and a half years.
