Friends From Winnipeg Make Cross-Country Journey for 4 Nations and NHL Playoffs

RALEIGH N,C — The road to the Stanley Cup is long, for some it helps to bring a GPS.

“Initially what happened was our flights were cancelled from Winnipeg to Boston,” Lucas Humble said. “We were looking at options to get to Boston and ultimately the easiest and cheapest way to get there was to drive.”

Humble is one of several of Seth Jarvis’ hometown friends who drove from Winnipeg, Canada to Boston, Massachusetts to see Seth play in the 4 Nations Tournament back in February.

“They went 30 hours straight to Boston,” Jarvis said. “Got there the night before the game, so I got to see them a little bit. They got to celebrate with us and meet some of the players and they had a blast.”

Some of the photos from the trip went viral and for the Carolina Hurricanes playoff series versus the New Jersey Devils, the NHL helped them do it again.

“Word got out and they wanted to get us to a game,” Bryan Hanna said. “We found anyway we could to get here.”

This time they flew into Washington, D.C., rented a van and drove the rest of the way to Raleigh to see Jarvis and the Canes play game five versus the Devils.

“We’re hoping for a big win,” Lucas Fry said during the game. “Canes come back here, we get to see Seth and hopefully that’s the end of round one and they can focus on round two.”

After two additional periods, the Canes came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Devils 5-4 and claim the series victory. Following the match, they celebrated with their long-time buddy in the dressing room.

You encounter many people who change over time, but he has remained the same person,” said Sloan Tremblay. “That’s pretty neat.

Jarvis has won over fans with both his goal-scoring abilities and his personality. His closest buddies say he remains the same person they’ve known since their younger days, though there are certain tales that remain just among themselves.

There were many things they couldn’t divulge,” Jarvis chuckled. “They managed quite well with the leaks, sharing some details about me while trying to keep those bits confidential. That was their attempt anyway.
