— The state of Colorado is observing National Travel and Tourism Week, a seven-day celebration from May 4-10 that highlights the importance of the travel sector within the U.S.
Governor Jared Polis, in his statement, praised Colorado as a “top-tier international location” and emphasized that tourism plays a significant role in boosting economic development. He also highlighted how this allows visitors from outside to experience the varied splendor of their state.
“National Travel and Tourism Week serves to emphasize the vital part that travel plays in cultivating fresh viewpoints, promoting innovation, and stimulating economic development,” Polis stated.
The police also highlighted the 2027 Sundance Film Festival, set to take place in Boulder that year for the first time ever, as a chance to “greet new guests.”
Tourism in Colorado
In 2023, a staggering 93.3 million visitors to Colorado generated an all-time high expenditure of $28.2 billion, as stated by the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO). This substantial spending contributed $1.8 billion towards local and state tax revenues for that year, marking a noted rise of 5.7% compared to 2022 figures.
In a statement, CTO Director Timothy Wolfe remarked that the state’s tourism workforce has a “crucial role” in both inviting “the world” to visit Colorado and safeguarding the state and its inhabitants.
“We continue to be dedicated to presenting our state as an outstanding location—providing remarkable experiences while safeguarding the locations and individuals that contribute to its uniqueness,” Wolfe stated.
Top spots
Colorado boasts numerous popular tourist spots such as Rocky Mountain National Park, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Garden of the Gods, and Pikes Peak, along with several others.
The state likewise boasts numerous popular mountain towns and ski destinations such as Vail, Aspen, Telluride, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, and Crested Butte.
Eve Lieberman, who serves as the executive director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, stated that the agency is “delighted to back the ongoing growth” of the tourism sector within the state.
“The CTO has a vital part in both highlighting our renowned locations and assisting visitors in uncovering the lesser-known gems that lend such distinctiveness to our state,” Lieberman stated in a release.
