The Executive Director, Nichole Farley, informed KRCR about a slight rise in travel-associated expenditures within the county over the last year.
“Butte County saw visitor expenditures amounting to $378.7 million in 2024. According to Farley, this contributed approximately $30.2 million in local and state taxes. These funds include both our local sales tax and transient occupancy tax, which contribute directly to the general fund. This money will be used to bolster various general services,” he explained.
Farley mentioned that the rise in expenditure has resulted in increased job opportunities within the travel and tourism sector. Additionally, she noted that their group typically does not experience a significant number of foreign travelers.
Currently, they’re beginning to establish connections with global tour operators to enhance recognition of Butte County and the entire North State region as tourist destinations.
Even though a decline in visits to the state is anticipated in 2025, officials from Visit California assert that California still holds the top spot as the leading travel destination within the U.S.
