Soldiers and Veterans Get Free Rides for VE Day

UK veterans and active service members have been granted complimentary bus rides for VE Day celebrations throughout Essex.

Events are taking place to commemorate 80 years since the Allies accepted Germany’s surrender during World War II on May 8, 1945.

The First Bus announced that qualifying riders had the opportunity to utilize their offer starting from Monday through Sunday.

The commercial director, James McCluskey, stated that this was the company’s “method of expressing gratitude.”

Cities, towns and villages across Essex will be hosting VE Day commemorations throughout the week.

Military vehicles, live 1940s music, and historical lectures are scheduled from 10:00 to 17:00 BST in Chelmsford on Monday.

Live entertainment will take place in Priory Park from 3 PM to 4:30 PM in Southend-on-Sea.

Additional events will take place in Maldon, Braintree, Witham, and Basildon as well.
