Still, certain individuals might not require a Real ID immediately. According to Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, those who aren’t planning to travel after May 7 likely won’t need their Real IDs anytime soon. In light of the increased demand recently seen at Illinois DMV offices, he recommended that residents without an immediate need for a Real ID postpone applying until later to dodge long wait times at these locations.
