Free Bus Rides for Basingstoke Veterans and Active Military on VE Day

Veterans and active military members from Basingstoke can ride for free on Thursday, May 8.

On the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Stagecoach South is providing complimentary bus rides to active-duty service members, veterans, and cadets throughout their routes in Basingstoke and other regions.

The firm states that this program is part of their pledge to honor the efforts and sacrifices made by active-duty personnel and former service members of the military.

VE Day marks the conclusion of World War II in Europe on May 8, 1945.

The occasion celebrates the courage and sacrifices of those who served and serves as a moment for contemplation, recollection, and national pride during the 80th anniversary.

Individuals who qualify, such as service members with their uniforms or military IDs, veterans displaying a veteran’s badge or medal, and cadets wearing their uniforms, are permitted to ride for free on all Stagecoach South buses.

This backing will enable them to participate in nearby VE Day festivities and remembrances.

Marc Reddy, the managing director at Stagecoach South, stated: “We are immensely proud to have numerous veterans on our team, and it is an honor for us to acknowledge the courage and commitment demonstrated by our Armed Forces members, cadets, and veterans.”

Providing complimentary rides on VE 80 Day is a modest way to show gratitude for the significant contributions made by our servicemen and women, both past and current.

The program is supported by Stagecoach’s employee-driven Veterans Network, established to bring together team members who share similar backgrounds, enhance their impact, foster beneficial transformations, and assist in guiding corporate choices.

Recently, Stagecoach has demonstrated its commitment to the Armed Forces community by offering complimentary rides during weekends dedicated to the military as well as on Remembrance Days.

Stagecoach South, collaborating with The D-Day Story Museum, plans to reveal a uniquely adorned bus to mark VE Day, honoring the resilience and contributions of those from the World War II era.

Since March 2015, Stagecoach has been part of the Armed Forces Covenant, acknowledging the importance of service personnel, including regulars, reserves, veterans, and military families, to both the nation and enterprises throughout the country.

This offer is open to everyone who has served in the military and those who have been discharged, but it does not include services run by Megabus, TfL, or the Bee Network.
