The organizer of the Portuguese Spring Festival states, “Everyone is invited,” and emphasizes, “This event isn’t solely for the Portuguese community.”
Joao Nunes assists with organizing an event that has taken place for almost 15 years, and this edition will run from May 2nd to May 6th.
Classic cuisine and beverages are featured at the gathering in Les Jardins de la Mer, and musicians travel to the island to perform traditional tunes as well.
Approximately 1,000 individuals visit the location daily to commemorate Portuguese heritage.
Mr. Nunes has witnessed the event gain more traction since its inception.
He mentioned, “Last year, we had to restrict entries due to high demand,” adding that since it operates on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis, individuals should arrive early.
Mr. Nunes added, “The island boasts numerous Portuguese eateries serving delicious cuisine and beverages, which we’ve brought here for all to savor.”
Approximately one out of every 11 inhabitants of Jersey claim they have either Portuguese or Madeiran ancestry.
Anita De Andrade assists in operating one of the food and beverage stands at the event.
She mentioned, “It’s fantastic entertainment,” and added, “It’s wonderful to observe everybody enjoying themselves and blending different cultures.”
Telmo Rodrigues is a Portuguese vocalist who journeyed to the island to participate in the festival.
He said “it was my first time in Jersey” and “I play pop Portuguese music”.
Mr. Rodrigues added, “I am extremely pleased since folks dance to my music, and I had a great time here.”
