LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – The Lufkin Police Department is advising motorists to avoid driving through floodwaters.
At 8:15 PM, the Lufkin Police Department issued an update regarding road closures as follows:
WARNING: Water has mostly withdrawn from most of Lufkin’s streets and these areas are reopening. Nevertheless, we urge residents to exercise caution and stay alert for potential flooding on the roads. Our personnel including police officers and firefighters are helping drivers whose vehicles have broken down due to water. Please drive carefully, watching out for disabled cars and people in the roadways, particularly when visibility decreases at nightfall.
Aside from the roadway problems, approximately 2,000 Oncor customers were affected as of 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

The department announced that the Frank Street railroad underpass in downtown Lufkin has been shut down because of flooding.
The following roadways have beenclosed due toflooding:
- Ellis Avenue intersects with Angelina Street
- Ellis Avenue near Raguet Street
- Kurth Drive “underneath the overpass”
- The entire stretch of Denman Avenue within the loop
- Frank Street in front of St. Luke’s Hospital-Memorial
They warn motorists to seek an alternative path and stay away from any inundated roadways.
