Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) — An untouched 900-acre area in Sevier County has become the location for the nation’s most extensive zip line.
The state’s tourism commissioner mentioned that the funds allocated for attracting visitors are yielding positive outcomes.
Your MegaZip begins at an elevation of 2,400 feet as you glide down for a mile at a speed of 55 mph.
Commissioner of Tourism Mark Ezell mentioned that it’s these new attractions which have caught the interest of tourists globally.
“All the efforts made in Sevier County and the surrounding area of East Tennessee have contributed to making Tennessee the second-fastest-growing state in America over the past six years,” stated Ezell.
Mayor David Wear of Pigeon Forge stated that the numerous new hotels being constructed are assisting in meeting the demands created by the millions of visitors who come to Sevier County annually.
“Consider this: If you come to Pigeon Forge annually and there aren’t any new activities, chances are after a few years, you might choose another destination. Therefore, it’s crucial that Pigeon Forge expands. This growth should not only be limited to Pigeon Forge itself but also include Sevier County overall. It needs to boost its economy with fresh attractions so visitors have plenty of options,” explained Wear.
That’s why Bryce Bentz at WildSide was brainstorming innovative ideas to create something uniquely distinctive.
“An idea never realized in Sevier County before. That was truly the inspiration behind the creation of the MegaZip. After all, it’s the longest zip line in the entire United States. Finding terrain suitable enough for such an endeavor isn’t easy. However, through extensive exploration, we finally reached the summit of Ravens’ Peak, which serves as the starting point for the MegaZip,” explained Bentz.
It’s an escapade high above the Smokies that puts a grin on your face with every sight.
Absolutely fantastic! What an adventure, really. Everyone should try out WildSide,” stated Ezell. “Sevier County has incredible resources that attract visitors from all over, including international travelers coming through Nashville who wish to explore the Smoky Mountains and enjoy many of the amazing outdoor activities available in Tennessee.
Wildside and Anakeesta, which are sibling attractions, will offer half-price entry during their respective Local Appreciation Days from May 8-15, 2025. This discount applies to residents of Blount, Sevier, Jefferson, and Cocke Counties.
