In Michigan, a man is facing nine felony charges related to luring a 14-year-old girl through social media messages, leading her to travel over two hours from her residence.
The person who was hurt was held in a cellar for some portion of the time they were missing from their house.
Charles Laurence Willis, aged 22 from Northville Township, appeared before the 35th District Court in Plymouth for his arraignment on Wednesday. He faces several charges as stated by the Northville Township Police Department in their press statement: kidnapping, luring a minor under 16 years old with intent for illicit activities, engaging in child sexually abusive behavior, along with six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The bond was established at $1 million, and he is currently detained at the Wayne County Jail.
A likely cause hearing is set for May 9, with a preliminary examination planned for May 16, as per the court documents.
The situation leading to his arrest began on Friday.
The Northville Township detectives discovered that the 14-year-old victim had been approached through the social video and messaging app Snapchat.

The grown woman who was communicating with her organized for and covered the cost of an Uber ride to transport the teenage girl to a residence in Northville Township. The woman resides approximately two hours’ travel time distant from there.
Upon reaching the house, the teenager was instructed to remain in the basement, according to law enforcement officials.
Around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, she was spotted wandering unaccompanied near Seven Mile and Sheldon roads. Detectives from the Northville Township police conducted a search at Willis’ residence, leading to his arrest shortly thereafter.
The Wayne County Prosecution Office gave approval for the charges.
