Kodak, Tenn. (WVLT) – Nestled along the shores of the French Broad River lies the Douglas Tailwater Campground. Situated precisely at the downstream end of the Douglas Dam, this secluded gem makes an ideal retreat. The campground caters to visitors of every age with its variety of offerings.
The most incredible aspect of this park has got to be spotting eagles,” remarked Alice Price, the General Manager at Tennessee Hospitality Six. “A lot of visitors spend their entire time moving between the campground and the dam throughout the day. You’ll notice they keep going back and forth, constantly tracking these birds with cameras in hand as they try to capture that perfect photograph.
If you prefer boating and fishing, there’s boat access and a designated fishing zone available for the public; no reservation is required. In terms of facilities, they provide an array of distinct camping spots.
We currently have 36 campsites situated alongside the French Broad River, followed by an additional set of locations numbered from 37 through 60 which are not riverfront,” explained Price. “Among these, three sites offer a more basic camping experience. Our facilities include electrical hookups at either 30 amps or 50 amps; some spots even provide connections for both capacities. Inside our campground, there are two restrooms equipped with hot water available to visitors. It’s this kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes us ideal for families looking to enjoy their time together. Additionally, within our grounds, we maintain a play area exclusively for children who are staying with registered campers.
At every location, visitors can find a combination of picnic tables, fire pits, or grills. Firewood is sold on-site for those who enjoy building evening fires. Additionally, Douglas Tailwater features a camp store where essential items can be purchased if left behind at home. Two out of these sites comply with ADA accessibility standards. Situated close to the area, Douglas Tailwater provides easy access to the Great Smoky Mountains as well as towns like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
“We understand all the issues folks face in their daily lives, and our aim is to provide everyone with an opportunity to step out and savor each day, every weekend, and throughout the entire week. Even more so, we encourage them to create unforgettable memories. Our mission is simply to ensure that people recognize we’re here for this reason—to help them appreciate everything life has to offer without having to spend a fortune,” stated Price.
