Art and Wine Stroll: Downtown Sioux Falls Escape

SIoux Falls, SD (KELO) — The downtown area of Sioux Falls is highlighting its creative aspect.

It’s a fairly calm Friday morning as downtown Sioux Falls prepares for a hectic evening during the Spring Art & Wine Walk.

“During Art & Wine Walk, which takes place twice annually in downtown Sioux Falls, local retailers collaborate with local artists. Guests can enjoy sipping and sampling wine,” according to Jeb Cooper, the marketing manager at DTSF.

The event can be attended without cost; however, you may buy a wine punch card from numerous participating establishments among the 38 involved sites.

“We typically encounter traditional painters, several sculptors, and lately, an abundance of potters. However, we also have live musicians performing, along with some cooking classes,” Cooper mentioned.

“I enjoy bringing individuals who aren’t typically engaged with art into the gallery; it’s rewarding to witness that initial glimmer of interest,” remarked Alix Kyrie, director at Rehfelds Modern Fine Art & Framing Gallery.

Kyrie serves as the gallery director at Rehfelds, which is currently showcasing a sculptor hailing from Colorado alongside a painter from California; however, both artists were born in South Dakota. This exhibition offers merely a glimpse into what the city can provide culturally.

“It’s truly an excellent period of the year for the arts. We’re commemorating the Levitt unveiling their season, SculptureWalk being installed, and we also have the Art & Wine Walk, making it a fantastic time for us to revel in the artistic scene downtown,” Kyrie mentioned.

The Art & Wine Walk features an outdoor alternative as well, a fresh program known as Open Streets. This month, it will take place on Phillips Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets.

“Downtown Sioux Falls plans to open segments of Phillips Avenue on the first Friday of each month from May through August. This initiative aims to enliven the area and foster community engagement, encouraging everyone to reimagine how streets can serve both vehicles and pedestrians alike,” explained Cooper.

This month, make sure not to miss out on the art and wine events.

The Art & Wine Walk takes place on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Sioux Falls.

Wine tasting punch cards can be bought at “Open Streets” events or at places that take part in this activity.
