HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – Hastings Parks and Recreation, Hastings Public Library and the Hastings Museum held a ‘May the Fourth Be with You’ event on Sunday.
The phase stems from the famous Star Wars phase ‘May the Force Be with You.’
The free event featured a Jedi Academy, which included light-saber training, a special themed scavenger hunt, Star Wars comic book and other festivities.
Steve Farrens, recreation superintendent of Hastings, said he wanted to provide a pop-cultured event for the community.
“I want to to have a community event every season,” said Farrens. “I think pop culture brings a multitude of generations together, Stars Wars specifically.“
Jason Ready, squad leader of 501st Legion Nebraska shared he’s been a fan of Star Wars since he was six years old.
“There’s nostalgia here for me,” said Ready. “I saw the first Star Wars movie ‘Empire Strikes Back’ back in 1980. If I can get a chance to come back to this community and actually give back doing this then I will always take that opportunity.“
Nyah Hosier, an attendee dressed up as the Mandalorian, said she’s a true fan of the Star Wars Universe.
It’s really enjoyable to get dressed up,” said Hosier. “It’s also great to recall all the characters and such.
