FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) — With the Real ID deadline drawing near, the North Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles has stated that two-thirds of drivers now possess a Real ID.
On March 7th, adults will require a Real ID if they intend to use it for domestic flight boarding passes or to enter federal facilities like courthouses or military bases.
Several specific documents are required for obtaining a Real ID when you visit the DMV for your scheduled appointment.
Things to know are:
- You must present evidence of your legal status in the U.S., including citizenship, lawful permanent residence, or presence under the law.
- Should your present name vary from what’s listed on your identification, you must provide extra documentation verifying your official name change.
- You have to show evidence of your Social Security Number.
- You need to show evidence of your present address. Every document should include your name, actual home address, and be the latest version available. PO box addresses will not suffice.
If you haven’t scheduled anything for the coming weeks or even until late summer or fall, plan ahead,” advised Brad Schaffer, who serves as the North Dakota DMV Service Director. “Currently, our office has reached full capacity with quite a high number of requests.
After May 7, Schaffer anticipates a decline in appointments scheduled at Department of Motor Vehicles offices. This period will provide an opportunity for individuals planning future travel to obtain a Real ID rather than needing to present a passport when flying domestically.
A lot of individuals believe that May 7th is the cutoff date for getting their Real IDs printed,” Schaffer stated. “However, this isn’t correct; we’ll continue producing these IDs beyond that point. So, if you aren’t rushed and your travel plans don’t include May 7th, 8th, or 9th, then you should take some time to prepare without feeling pressured, making everything smoother.
