House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries Evades Query on Democrats’ Upcoming El Salvador Trip

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries avoided answering questions on Thursday regarding whether he wishes for members of his group to make future trips to El Salvador to meet with Kilmer Agobo Garcia, the alleged MS-13 gang member who was expelled under the Trump administration in March.

that sources told her it is “very much not the case.” An unidentified reporter asked Jeffries whether or not he supports Democrats traveling to El Salvador during his weekly press conference, and Jeffries dodged the question.

“Mr. Leader, can you just clarify your position with a simple yes or no, do you support your members going to El Salvador, particularly in terms of the situation involving Kilmar Abrego Garcia?” asked a reporter in attendance.

We’ll address that issue as it comes up,” replied Jeffries. “Regarding the report suggesting that leaders within the House Democrats engaged in an imaginary discussion with those who traveled to El Salvador or any other representatives—that claim is entirely false. The sole comment directed at the delegation upon their return from El Salvador was ‘Welcome back; we’re pleased you’ve arrived home safe and sound.’

Jeffries’ office did not reply to several requests from the Daily Caller News Foundation about whether he wishes for Democrats to continue these excursions.

Garcia’s deportation turned into a major political issue when Democrats and the corporate media latched onto an administrative mistake made by the Trump administration during his expulsion process. Nonetheless,

about their view on whether or not colleagues should continue going to El Salvador to draw attention to Garcia’s situation, though they also did not directly answer the questions.
