What date will Mother’s Day be in 2025?

In the U.S., Mother’s Day is observed on the second Sunday of May. This particular year, the date for Mother’s Day is set for May 11.

Where does the origin of Mother’s Day come from?

According to
The Farmer’s Almanac
Mother’s Day started as a daughter’s homage in 1906 following Anna M. Jarvis losing her mother the previous year. The next year, in 1907, she arranged a church event where she distributed carnations to celebrate all the mothers present.

Jarvis dedicated years to advocating for this observance, penning letters to churches, political figures, and municipal leaders. She also enlisted the support of notable individuals such as John Wanamaker and Henry J. Heinz from Heinz Ketchup in her efforts. By 1911, all states were celebrating Mother’s Day, and in 1915, President Woodrow Wilson officially designated it a federal holiday.
