Nebraska’s Most Scenic Trail Named the Best Hike in the State

Is there a particular spot where you love to take walks?

Although Nebraska has several charming hiking paths, just one stands out as the premier destination for enthusiasts.

Whether it’s the stunning vistas of serene lakes, the sight of a radiant sunset dipping behind a far-off mountain ridge, or an overhead look at dawn causing the dewdrops on hundreds of tree leaves to glisten all around you, there’s something distinctive about this path that elevates it above others. It has grown into a must-see for anyone visiting Nebraska.

Certain paths are explored due to their historical significance, whereas some are appreciated for their tranquil solitude and sparse crowds. No matter the reason behind your choice to hit a hiking path, there’s an exceptional treasure in Nebraska that should definitely be included in your itinerary!

needed to mention the ultimate spot for hiking in the state:

Situated close to the town of Halsey, the Bessey Ranger District within this 141-square-mile forest offers an unusual and unexpectedly untamed experience. With hardly any designated trails, exploring here means crafting your very own journey. Begin along the single marked hiking trail in the region—a sand-covered, three-mile trek that meanders across hillsides and brushes against fragments of prairies. Upon reaching the endpoint, ascend the Scott Fire Tower, a functional lookout point standing tall at fifty feet high, from where you can survey potential routes ahead. Afterward, connect various cattle tracks and ancient logging pathways amidst impressive stands of ponderosa pines as well as areas reclaimed for grazing, replenishing your supply of drinking water at scattered windmill-equipped cattle tanks spread throughout the woodland.
