Goodman-LeGrand Museum Unveils New ‘Texas Treasures’ Exhibit

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The ground level of the Goodman-LeGrand Museum now showcases artifacts and treasures that highlight the history of Texas and East Texas.

The new exhibit is called Texas Treasures and features items from all over the world relating to Texas history. Much of the collection is on loan from a Tyler native who enjoys treasure hunting in East Texas.

He discovers objects in creek beds, beneath houses, and inside ancient outhouses,” stated museum supervisor Debbie Isham. “We’re thrilled to introduce something fresh to Tyler and our museum.

The collection features glass bottles, ceramics, cigar boxes, and antique maps from the 1800s — including some that were printed prior to Texas being annexed and becoming part of the U.S.

“I find these quite fascinating as they come from all over the globe,” Isham remarked.

People from all over the country come to visit this museum.

“Wherever we go, we look up houses to visit online using Google, and we ensure they’re included in our itinerary,” explained Wendy Yates, who was visiting East Texas from Arkansas along with her cousin and friend.

The three of them were the first to view the new exhibition when it opened on Friday morning.

“I don’t believe anyone else has offered such an extensive range, and for the local museum, the Goodman Museum, to have been chosen as the venue — that’s what truly sets it apart,” stated Isham.
