Friends Beg for Help Locating Missing Japanese Man in Vegas for WSOP

Friends and family of a man visiting Las Vegas from Japan are begging for help.

They hope he can be found after going missing a week ago.

26-year-old Yuto Moriyasu’s roommate was the last person to have contact with him.

“I’m very worried. I’m very concerned for his safety,” said Nobuaki Sasaki, who News 3 spoke with using a translator.

He says his friend and poker assistant, Yuto Moriyasu, has been missing from their Spring Valley Airbnb since July 2nd.

“This is his first time traveling out of Japan to a foreign country, and he doesn’t speak English, and he’s new to traveling,” said Sasaki. “So, I really don’t see him leaving Las Vegas.”

The friends arrived in town from their home in Japan in late May to participate in the World Series of Poker.

Sasaki says Yuto came as his assistant, but was also participating in poker events and was supposed to participate in the main event before he went missing.

“My hope is that maybe he is found in a hotel or a hotel alive, and that would be that would make me very happy,” he said.

Sasaki says it all started last Wednesday when Yuto stopped by their Airbnb after he went to get burgers.

Yuto was communicating with Sasaki that he would meet up at Horseshoe Hotel and Casino, but never showed up.

When Sasaki arrived at their rental later the same day, he says things seemed off.

“I looked around the house myself, and I did see his – Yuto’s cell phone by his bedside, and also, I saw the sandals that he uses every day,” said Sasaki.

The rental car, Yuto’s Japanese I.D., and Japanese and U.S. money were still at the house, along with his backpack.

Sasaki says there was also a large kitchen knife on the living room chair.

What was gone was $10,000 U.S. in cash and Yuto’s Japanese passport.

“I don’t believe he would just take off with the money that he has, if he were to just run away,” said Sasaki. “There is cash at the house. I believe he would have just taken the cash with him.”

Sasaki says no scenario seems to make any sense.

“If there was a robbery in the house, it seems very strange to me as well, because the money in the living room, in plain sight,” he said. “So I just don’t know. I think this whole situation is very weird.”

At this point, he hopes that no matter what happened, his friend will be found as soon as possible.

“The only thing I care about is that you are safe and that you are alive, and I really want you to just come back,” said Sasaki.

Sasaki says he’s been in constant contact with Yuto’s family.

They have reached out to immigration and were told Yuto has not returned to Japan using his passport.

Metro Police tell me they don’t believe Yuto is endangered at this time.
