What occurs to travelers holding tickets for Silver Airways?
As the airline stated on social media, all tickets bought using a credit card will be completely refunded back to the original method of payment. According to Robert W. Mann, Jr., who previously served as an airline executive officer and now heads R. W. Mann and Co., an independent aviation consulting firm, individuals whose tickets were not acquired via credit card remain entitled to receive refunds. However, these travelers will need to join the queue alongside other creditors seeking reimbursement.
According to Mann, passengers holding tickets who wish to travel promptly may have to buy more expensive fares from alternative carriers since their current reservations might not be available.
Which was the final U.S. airline to cease operations?
It’s extremely uncommon for airlines in the U.S. to fully cease operations altogether.
Frequently, troubled airlines either get bought by other companies or become part of another carrier’s operations. As stated by Mann, several small regional airlines operating under bigger carriers ceased functioning at the peak of the COVID-19 crisis; however, these major airlines adjusted their schedules to cover for this shortfall. Additionally, some other minor players such as Tailwind—an airline providing regular seaplane services from New York to Boston—have also closed shop more recently. According to Mann, Tailwind stopped running its flights in 2024.
