The U.S. Department of State has given Iraq a Level 4 travel warning, which indicates the most serious risk level, and is firmly urging Americans not to travel there at all.

The warning highlights major safety issues such as terrorist activities, abductions, warfare, and civil disturbances, all of which present substantial dangers for visitors in the area.

In the warning released
On Wednesday, June 11, the State Department stressed, “Avoid traveling to Iraq for any purpose.”

The advisory points out terrorism, kidnappings, armed conflicts, civil disturbances, along with the U.S. government’s restricted capacity to offer emergency assistance to Americans in Iraq as the key factors behind this caution.
