There really is no reason not to make a stop here!
I’ve observed several significant alterations since my initial trip to this mosque. There have been substantial modifications to the guidelines and protocols. Therefore, I decided it would be wise to compose a revised article covering all the essential information you should be aware of prior to your visit to Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque.

1. Dress Code for the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
To start with, the primary point we should discuss is how to dress appropriately when visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has quite stringent clothing guidelines, especially for female visitors. This should not deter you from visiting; instead, consider it an opportunity to show respect by adhering to these regulations during your tour!
The attire guidelines for women visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque are as follows:
- Elbows and knees must be fully covered. Sleeve lengths shorter than full or up to three-quarters won’t be allowed. Hemlines at mid-thigh level or above for both skirts and trousers aren’t acceptable. Strict compliance is required! The only parts visible should be your palms, soles of the feet, and facial features.
- Your hair needs to be fully covered. If your hair is long like mine, ensure it remains concealed beneath a scarf or hijab.
- Previously, one could rent an abaya (a loose garment that covers the entire body) and a head cover upon arrival. But since its reopening in 2020, this option has been discontinued. Instead, those not appropriately attired must buy their own nearby the entry point for prices starting at 45 AED, approximately $12 USD.

The personnel at the entry point make the ultimate decision regarding your attire appropriateness. They inspect everyone’s clothing upon entry and reserve the right to deny access if they deem your outfit unsuitable.

You’re fortunate—there are several ways to visit the Grand Mosque!
Many visitors make a stop here during their tours. These excursions typically originate from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and frequently incorporate an Abu Dhabi City Tour into the itinerary.

Lastly, you have the option to visit independently by arranging for a taxi or an Uber. Indeed, you can choose to rent one and

5. How Much Time Should You Allocate for Visiting Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque?
Allocate from 30 minutes up to 1.5 hours for this, based on your desired photo-taking duration.
When it comes to photographs, one significant alteration I’ve observed recently pertains to the visitation process. In the not-so-distant past, guests had the freedom to stroll about freely, admiring the intricate marble work and retracing their steps for a more detailed inspection.
Currently, the hiking trail is quite well-organized. Ropes delineate the specific path you must take, and this pathway winds through areas both indoors and outdoors following a pre-set course. There’s no option to turn around for another look at what you might have missed.
It appears this approach makes visits somewhat briefer and more efficient. However, it also comes with some disadvantages.
As a photographer, I felt let down because everything seems so restricted today—especially when compared to what I remember from earlier times. Nonetheless, despite this limitation, it remains among the top attractions for visitors.

7. Is It Possible to Go on a Tour?
Absolutely! Just as noted earlier, you can eliminate the hassle and planning from your trip by arranging a round-trip guided tour to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which includes transportation.
The recommendations I suggest are as follows:

8. Can you explain the Photography Rules?
Photography and videography are permitted during the designated visitor hours. Please be considerate and ensure you obtain explicit consent before taking photos of others, particularly women.
I previously pointed out the cordoned-off paths designed to direct visitors along a specific route within the mosque. These restrictions do complicate my ability to capture the imaginative and stunning photos I envisioned. While I comprehend their reasoning behind implementing this, keep this in mind when planning your visit.
9. What makes the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque renowned?
This mosque stands as the biggest one in the whole nation and ranks third globally. Its capacity allows for more than 40,000 prayer participants simultaneously!
It also boasts a Guinness World Record for being the biggest hand-woven carpet, as seen above. Additionally, the sparkling chandelier within is among the largest found in any mosque.
Everything is elaborate here. Luxurious, and adorned with gold leaf. From the calligraphy on the walls showcasing verses from the Quran, to the meticulous details on each and every stone column. This mosque exudes opulence.
