Access Alaska Launches Inaugural Fairview Summer Bash!

ANCHorage, ALASKA (KTuu) — Access Alaska, an organization providing support and advocacy for self-sufficient seniors and individuals with disabilities in Alaska, organized their inaugural “Summer Bash” event on Wednesday.

The gathering included food trucks and live entertainment and was held at the parking area of Access Alaska’s site in Anchorage’s Fairview district—the community that Eric Gurley, who leads Access Alaska as its executive director, aims to assist with this event.

“We primarily aimed to unite the community,” Gurley stated. “While I wouldn’t call this mainly a donation event, we certainly appreciate any contributions people might want to make.”

Gurley characterizes Access Alaska as an “independent living center,” dedicated to assisting seniors and individuals with disabilities in becoming self-reliant and engaging within their communities. Recently though, he mentioned that this objective has encountered certain difficulties.

Access Alaska has experienced quite a difficult financial year,” Gurley stated. “Being backed by the community has truly provided a morale boost.

The primary purpose of initiating this event was to boost spirits. It began as a modest employee barbecue aimed at enhancing workplace morale. Over time, it evolved into a community block party.

Despite the event not officially beginning until 2 p.m., many residents had already started browsing the different stalls and were immersed in the live music performance provided by
Shaquil Aribuk
Aribuk, a musician and motivational speaker known as ” Visionary Shaq,” is pleased with how the event turned out.

It simply demonstrates peace, love, and community,” Aribuk commented on how people have reacted to the event. “The folks within this community are coming together, and everyone is enjoying themselves.

Given how swiftly things have unfolded, Access Alaska hasn’t really had time to ponder the event’s future; however, Gurley indicates that prospects look promising ahead.

It would be wonderful if this could become a yearly occurrence,” he stated. “In my view, that’s subtly the objective.
