VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) — The Valdosta Regional Airport has been awarded its biggest grant to date.
Tim Hood, the airport manager, stated that they have witnessed more chartered planes and aircraft making stops at the Valdosta airport recently. Due to this surge, they plan to utilize $4 million for constructing a new terminal facility.
“What this will achieve — thanks to the contemporary facilities — is attracting even more high-end clientele and larger aircraft to visit, thereby boosting economic contributions,” Hood stated.
Further updates from South Georgia:
In addition to the $4 million, an extra $3 million will be allocated for enhancing their communication tower, which dates back to the 1940s.
New radio equipment, an expanded workspace, and it will also be significantly taller allowing for better visibility across the airfield,” Hood explained. “Therefore, it’s the air traffic controllers stationed in the tower who must grab their phones or microphones to communicate with these organizations, ensuring comprehensive understanding of all incoming and outgoing activities.
Aside from the present airport designs, Hood mentioned that they will be introducing over 100 additional parking spots and are considering further expansions to increase the current airport’s capacity.
