Local Business Braces for Impact as Hurricane Season Kicks Off

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The start of hurricane season is upon us today, and with it comes the uncertainty of whether our area might get hit by a storm. Therefore, it’s crucial to stay ready at all times.

Holden Cates, the general manager of Koozie’s Bar and Grill, suggests planning in advance.

“Let’s hope we avoid a hurricane. The impact isn’t limited to employees or vendors; countless individuals would be affected,” stated Cates.

Cates operates two neighborhood bars and restaurants nearby, and he states that his primary concern if a hurricane was approaching would be ensuring the safety of his employees.

“We want to inform the community about our presence. We also aim to communicate this message to all the staff members. Our objective is for everybody to understand that we’re available to assist them and that they can approach us anytime with any queries or needs,” explained Cates.

He mentions that he was raised in Lake Charles and with every hurricane, he gains unique insights into their community.

“If something like Laura happens again, we will be okay. As long as our community has caring individuals with strong characters who are dedicated to supporting each other, we will get through it,” stated Cates.

Cates mentions that he is developing hurricane guides for his business which include emergency contact numbers to offer clients, ensuring they have access to assistance should calamity occur.
