EUFAULA, Ala. (WTVY) – The town of Eufaula is launching a new initiative for the summertime.
An alliance between Innovate Alabama, Alabama Power, and Lakepoint State Park is introducing a kayaking initiative to East Alabama.
“Kayak Eufaula” offers trips of 3 miles, 6 miles, or a solo journey led by a certified guide along Cowikee Creek.
“There are numerous individuals who we believe will gain from this initiative, offering everyone a chance to step outdoors and discover nature, as well as view the waterways in a manner that most people rarely experience,” stated Rick Thorne, the Program Coordinator for the City of Eufaula’s Parks and Recreation department.
The initiative will cater to both adults and children aged eight years and older. Upon the refurbishment of the welcome center at Lakepoint State Park, guests will receive educational resources alongside displays featuring local wildlife, informative panels, and historical insights into the lake’s past.
I believe both our children and adults should be informed,” Thorne stated. “What steps are required to rejuvenate our rivers? It’s crucial for us to look after our rivers and lakes, which includes managing the local fish and wildlife populations effectively, and understanding how each one of us can contribute to these efforts.
The official launch of Kayak Eufaula will take place on June 2 at 9 a.m. at Lakepoint State Park, providing daily guided tours throughout the week.
