In February, the OOCL Iris set a record by becoming the largest vessel in terms of TEU capacity to visit Savannah. Although the OOCL Iris doesn’t measure up dimensionally compared to others, it leads in container-carrying capability.
The OOCL Iris measures 1,204 feet in length and 167 feet in width, with a maximum capacity of 16,828 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), as reported by the Savannah Maritime Association.
The last vessel to arrive in Savannah before this one that held the record for having the highest TEU capacity was Marco Polo back in 2021, boasting an impressive 16,022 containers.
