The beginning of the extended holiday weekend at the Delaware River Waterfront was colder than usual.
A lot of folks sported sweatshirts and jackets on Saturday evening while gliding across the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink.
“It’s somewhat gloomy, yet I’m relieved it isn’t overly warm since I struggle with this quite a bit and would be drenched in sweat otherwise,” remarked Dariel Johnson.
Following a brief rainfall, a rainbow emerged above the river. Despite Memorial Day Weekend typically marking the informal beginning of summer, the strong breezes and cool temps made it feel akin to a typical autumn Saturday.
“It’s breezy and overcast initially, but it ultimately clears up and turns sunny, allowing us to venture out for activities such as getting ice cream,” explained Kennedy Parker.
Saul Maldonado mentioned that it has been a bit of light rain at times, with overcast skies that shift from cloudiness to sunshine.
“It hasn’t been the best, but initially it began somewhat drearily. Now, with the sunshine out, everyone is unwinding, which makes it quite pleasant,” said Ayden Kane.
At times, the sun managed to shine through the treetops above Spruce Street Harbor Park.
A few individuals unwound in a comfortable hammock, whereas Ciara Salerno remained unfazed by the subpar weather conditions and spent time playing Jenga with her mother, who was visiting from Maine.
“I spent my entire day hopping from one park to another today, and it’s been quite delightful finding shade under the trees whenever the rain starts pouring down,” Salerno mentioned.
Although it might not seem like late May, numerous families are still venturing out to relish the holiday weekend.
Maldonado commented, ‘As I stroll around taking in the scenery and admiring the views, families are all around, making it a perfect day to relish the weekend.’
