GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (

Come for a brief romance, but potentially find lasting love with the Grand Valley. This is what the organizers aim for those attending the first-ever Spring Fling at the Cross Orchards Historic Site. Held on Saturday, the event aimed to connect the local community with the rich cultural heritage of the Western Slope. Attendees had the opportunity to step back in time into an old-fashioned frontier settlement through tours of antique travel trailers, as well as workshops teaching skills such as woodworking, blacksmithing, and manual-powered laundry techniques.
Although the Cross Orchards Historic Site and its dedicated volunteers take great pleasure in assisting visitors in uncovering their cultural heritage, the primary objective of the organizers is to inspire hope and progress within their community. As Mollie Shepardson, the director of development and communication at COHS, explains, “Our aim is for everyone to feel proud of our shared hometown in the Grand Valley and leave with a deeper understanding of where they come from.” She adds, “The area truly comes alive when explored thoroughly. That’s what makes us enthusiastic about hosting events such as Spring Fling.”
