Starting May 7, a REAL ID will be mandatory for flying within the U.S.
Starting from May 7, the majority of adults traveling domestically within the U.S. must show either a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or an alternative approved document like a valid passport.
This requirement originates from a federal statute enacted in 2005 aimed at boosting national security. Despite multiple postponements, the Transportation Security Administration states that no additional delays will be granted.
Although numerous travelers already possess compliant identification, approximately 20%—or one out of every five individuals—are yet to comply.
For individuals lacking a REAL ID or passport, acquiring one prior to the deadline could prove difficult, particularly in regions where DMV appointment slots are scarce.
In Wisconsin, residents have the option to apply for a REAL ID at any Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office, even at sites located in various parts of the state.

, Union Grove, Kenosha, and nearby areas.
To apply, candidates need to submit either the original documents or certified copies from each of the following categories:
- Evidence of identity and date of birth (such as a birth certificate or passport)
- Evidence of lawful existence within the U.S. (such as a U.S. birth certificate, passport, or green card)
- Evidence of identification (such as a Social Security card or W-2 form)
- Evidence of name alteration (if relevant—such as a wedding certificate or legal decree)
- Two files demonstrating your present address (such as an electricity bill, rental agreement, or bank statement)
- Social Security number (this must be submitted, although a physical card might not be necessary if it’s already documented)
Since certain documents might fulfill multiple purposes whereas others could be single-purpose only, it’s crucial to examine the criteria closely prior to visiting the DMV. You can find a comprehensive checklist along with an interactive guide on their website.

“Our aim is to equip our fellow students with information so they can make well-informed choices and maintain their health,” stated Natalia Sanchez, who is part of the HOSA chapter at Horlick.
