WWII Veterans Commemorated on Historic Midwest Honor Flight Mission 25

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dakota News Now) — On Tuesday, the Midwest Honor Flight initiated their Seed for Success Foundation Mission 25, escorting 85 veterans to the national capital for “A last journey marked with dignity.”

Only two out of the 85 people aboard Mission 25 belonged to the “Greatest Generation.” Both William Butler, known as Bill, and George Olson served in the Army during the years spanning 1945 to 1947.

George served as a squad leader in the anti-aircraft artillery unit at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Bill was posted in Nara, Japan, serving as a courier who frequently delivered messages to General Douglas MacArthur following Japan’s capitulation.

These gentlemen have led fulfilling lives and wished to share their wisdom with the upcoming generation.

“Oh, I believe that generally doing what’s right means going to both church and school,” Bill stated.

Staying out of war is crucial,” George stated. “We need mechanisms to preserve peace. Getting involved would mean losing countless lives.

The conclusion and the repercussions of the Pacific War were significant periods. Both George and Bill feel immense pride for having dedicated themselves fully to serving their nation, which also holds them in high esteem.
