OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Friday that King Charles will visit Canada later this month to officially open a new parliamentary session.
The monarch is set to travel to Ottawa for the delivery of the “throne speech,” which will detail the objectives of Carney’s newly formed administration amidst facing challenges posed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s ongoing trade conflict.
Carney revealed the king’s “momentous” appearance scheduled for May 27 during his initial press conference following the Liberals’ victory in the recent federal election, which resulted in a substantial minority government.
The official X account of the Royal Family announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla will land in Canada on May 26th.
This is a historically significant honor that aligns with the gravity of our era,” Carney stated regarding the visit. “On Monday, Canadians chose a new administration to confront President Trump and foster a robust economy.
Carney also said he plans to head to Washington on Tuesday for a meeting with Trump.
