SkyWest Expands to Shreveport Regional Airport: Brings Maintenance Jobs and New Facility

SkyWest Airlines chose Shreveport
As its latest maintenance hub among 30 sites spanning the United States.

“I am pleased to announce that SkyWest Airlines, the nation’s largest regional airline carrier, has selected the
Shreveport Regional Airport
as its newest maintenance base and facility,”
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux
said.

On May 6, the city of Shreveport greeted SkyWeek Airlines. The firm chose Shreveport Regional Airport to be its latest maintenance hub and site for facilities aimed at supporting around 500 regional airplanes.

Through agreements with United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, SkyWest Airlines manages their regional flights. In 2024, they transported over 42 million travelers.

What does this mean for Shreveport?

According to Larry Blackwell, Director of Airports for the Shreveport Airport Authority
This investment in northwest Louisiana might lead to additional flights with airlines such as United, Delta, and American.

Blackwell stated, “I believe there’s room for more cities being serviced and possibilities for expansion as they cycle their planes through maintenance.”

Caddo Commissioner Stormy Gage-Watts stated, “We are excited about partnering with SkyWeek and inviting them into our community, as well as seizing the possibilities that this partnership will create.”

It is anticipated that the SkyWest facility will generate 150 new direct positions, each offering an average yearly wage of $70,000. According to Louisiana Economic Development, this initiative could also lead to approximately 375 additional indirect roles and potentially bring about 525 fresh job opportunities to the region’s northwest area.

The hangar SkyWest plans for Shreveport will mark their 13th maintenance facility, with operations expected to commence during the latter part of 2025.

We’re thrilled to choose Shreveport Regional Airport as our latest maintenance hub,” stated Joe Sigg, SkyWest’s vice president of Maintenance. “We value the warm reception from both the local community and the state of Louisiana and anticipate expanding our workforce of proficient technicians to support the leading fleet of regional airplanes in the industry.

Governor Jeff Landry stated, “I wish to express my gratitude to SkyWest for acknowledging the capable workforce we’ve developed in Louisiana. Additionally, I’d like to extend thanks to every organization involved in making this initiative a reality.”

Arceneaux stated that this project wouldn’t have succeeded without the resolve shown by the Shreveport Regional Airport and Airport Authority. The entire initiative came together within just 36 hours.

Justin Dixon, who serves as both the president and CEO of North Louisiana Economic Development, mentioned that we accelerated beyond typical business pace.
