Free Trishaw Rides Aim to Combat Loneliness

Complimentary rickshaw rides through a coastal town aim to assist secluded individuals in “getting out and exploring” as well as “having a chat,” according to a duo from Lancashire who are initiating this service.

Adam and Vicci Blakey are collaborating with Charity Cycling Without Age England to gather funds for purchasing a specially designed trishaw—a three-wheeled cycle modified to transport two riders—to provide elderly and mobility-challenged individuals with enjoyable tours around Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.

Mr. Blakey mentioned that as a content producer and podcast host, he aimed to utilize his abilities to create social media videos featuring discussions with travelers.

He stated, “I would be thrilled to document those tales for anyone interested.”

He mentioned being motivated by various trishaw projects across the nation, along with his own auntie, who has grown increasingly secluded after relocating to a care facility.

“Except for when the family goes to see her, she stays inside,” Mr Blakey stated.

Our aim is to collaborate with nearby care facilities and municipal authorities to provide this as a service, enabling individuals to venture out—perhaps to relish the Blackpool Promenade and a serving of fish and chips—or perhaps to visit the park for a cuppa and some lively conversation.

Originally intending to operate the trishaws during their free time, Mr. Blakey mentioned that the pair was hoping the material generated from these trips might aid in expanding the service.

He mentioned that the biggest [trishaw programme] in the UK currently boasts 10.

We hope to expand this initiative so that we can contribute more to others.

Tune into the cream of the crop tracks.
