“I wanted to let you know. A couple of hours ago, my spouse passed through BOS security. They thoroughly inspected identification documents prior to allowing entry into the TSA queue, and those with non-REAL-ID compliant IDs underwent additional screening procedures. Therefore, despite the official deadline being Wednesday, these enhanced checks seem to be commencing sooner than expected,” as per the user’s statement.

A lot of people across the nation have encountered issues while trying to obtain the revised documents. Besides the DMV offices facing excessive crowding, travelers attempting to fly have mentioned being denied for what seem like minor reasons. A user recounted their encounter on an online discussion board.
The individual mentioned they underwent a pre-check process without possessing a Real ID. When attempting to apply, they noted their name was changed when they turned 18 through means unrelated to marriage or similar events. They provided documentation including both evidence of the name alteration and an official statement from legal counsel confirming this change; however, the DMV refused these documents citing the necessity for the original record,” as per the claim made.
“Honestly at that point it became not worth it to me to do the Real ID now. That was the first time in 24 years that the copy hasn’t been accepted.”
At Department of Motor Vehicles offices, certain individuals claim they cannot get the REAL ID due to obstacles that were unexpectedly challenging for them. Many are realizing too late that they do not have the necessary documentation needed to secure a new ID at the DMV, with the May 7th deadline fast approaching. Even those who bring an abundance of personal papers are still sent away, according to these reports.

Ultimately, it comes down to having the original documents to prove your name change. As stated on the New York DMV’s website, they accept “ certified copies of both birth and marriage certificates.”
“If your name has changed once or multiple times due to marriage or divorce, for example, proof of each change, such as a marriage certificate or divorce decree, must be provided to show the connection.” There are instances where married women are denied their new REAL ID because they are told that their paperwork isn’t “official” enough to verify a name change.
This comes as the dooming deadline to get a REAL or enhanced ID approaches. Without one you won’t be able to fly domestically or enter government buildings if without a passport too. If you haven’t made an appointment at your local DMV location yet, it may be too late to meet the deadline. Several states have reported long lines at DMV locations, and appointments are booked for months in advance
