The region around Wilmington, NC encompasses places like Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Fort Fisher, Southport, and Oak Island. I am familiar with these areas.”
Outer Banks
Have been enjoying fresh blooms recently. Despite this, Wilmington along with nearby regions boasts stunning shores, rich heritage, and a remarkable absence of typical beach town chaos or excessively hyped-up pricey uniformity. There aren’t many big-box retailers, franchise eateries, or super trendy spots around. However, you’ll come across numerous microbreweries and some truly awesome, down-to-earth mobile kitchens offering great eats.”

Leavenworth, Washington, is a picturesque Bavarian-themed village situated among theCascade Mountains, featuring numerous delightful small stores. However, this place isn’t genuine; back in the ‘70s or so, when it faced decline as a logging community, the locals decided to transform into Germans overnight. They adorned their buildings with ornate wooden trimmings reminiscent of gingerbread houses—even putting them on fast-food joints like McDonald’s—and changed the welcome signs accordingly. This commitment to authenticity is over-the-top—yet somehow endearing. Although unconventional, Leavenworth definitely gets a perfect score from me: 10 out of 10.

There are two places I particularly love: Ouray, Colorado, which is nestled within a rocky gorge, offers stunning views. We lodged at a charming inn featuring its own natural hot springs. Additionally, Anacortes, Washington—located just above Whidbey Island—is wonderful. During our visit, we embarked on a day trip to a local brewery, where the surroundings were absolutely enchanting.

“Burlington, Vermont, is one of the most pleasant small cities to visit, and the surrounding areas are very beautiful. There are many smaller towns nearby, such as Montpelier, Stowe, etc.. As a bonus, Burlington is also fairly easily accessible from either Boston or Montreal.”

8.

Morro Bay, California. Among the numerous popular seaside communities along the Central Coast, this place remains notably less congested compared to others, offering an appealing atmosphere, delicious cuisine, and spectacular marine wildlife. Renting kayaks allows you to socialize with playful sea otters drifting about in the ocean. Throughout the year, whales cruise through the bay. The area boasts a fantastic spot for live music alongside a cozy dive bar. This town holds a special place in my heart.

9.

Oatman, Arizona. This tiny, historical town sits along an untouched section of the original Route 66 amid rugged mountains. Renowned for its authentic Old West ambiance featuring timber walkways and mock shootouts, Oatman’s main attraction lies in its sociable herd of wild burros—descendants from former transport animals.

abandoned by miners, these creatures wander freely along the town’s principal thoroughfare. Visitors have the opportunity to engage with them and frequently offer them sustenance using provisions bought locally from nearby stores.”

Floyd, Virginia boasts an energetic arts community, with live music prevalent throughout and a quaint downtown area nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains.

11.

Mackinac Island is stunning and remarkably distinct because automobiles aren’t permitted there. You can explore the island using a bicycle, riding in a horse-drawn carriage, or simply walking. What I love most about Mackinac Island are the vintage-style sweet shops where the fudge is absolutely delicious!

In Traverse City, Michigan, you can enjoy accolade-filled vineyards, participate in the yearly cherry festivity, relax at unspoiled shoreline areas, and it’s conveniently near the cherished Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore!

19.

Fredericksburg, Texas, a historic German settlement in Central Texas, boasts rich history, numerous wineries, exceptional museums, and best of all, according to me, an elephant sanctuary.

20.

Natchitoches, LA. This place may be tiny, yet it boasts a picturesque riverside area and becomes particularly vibrant during Christmastime thanks to its light festival. The place experiences significant snowfall during winters; however, despite the snowy climate, the town exudes warmth and coziness.
