Intense weather affected all of the DC-region’s airports, leading to delays for takeoffs and landings at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Reagan National Airport (DCA).
By 11:30 p.m., all delays had been cleared at the affected airports.

Flights arriving at DCA experienced an average delay of 165 minutes, whereas outbound flights had an average delay of 90 minutes, attributed to ground and departure delays. Meanwhile, departures from Dulles International Airport face an average delay of 90 minutes as well.
Due to the severe weather, BWI initially faced a ground stop; however, it later transitioned to a departure delay with an average wait time of 105 minutes for flights, which continued to increase.
The National Business Aviation Association states that a ground stop occurs when air traffic control cannot manage aircraft movements safely. These stops typically happen due to extreme weather conditions, significant system failures, or large-scale disasters.
