MIDDLETON, Wis. (WMTV) — The Costco Wholesale location in Middleton resumed operations around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday following an afternoon power outage that led to its closure earlier in the day.
The store manager informed WMTV that the Deming Way location experienced a power outage at approximately 9:30 a.m. By 2:30 p.m., electricity had been reinstated.
According to a manager, the store experienced slight losses due to the power outage and had to discard certain perishable goods, such as rotisserie chickens and pizzas.
The manager mentioned that the store has a procedure to transfer frozen and chilled products to their walk-in coolers, which can maintain power for multiple hours without being opened.
Earlier in the day, a manager also said the store was able to run on backup power, and a generator was en route to the store.
Madison Gas & Electric crews estimated they would restore the power around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. The store manager explained that they were able to shut the line down and reopen the store’s circuits earlier than they expected because there were no apparent issues with the store’s power.
The manager mentioned that they are still unaware of what led to the blackout.
