Lancaster Faces Davidson in 7-on-7 Scrimmage at OU

Preparing for the Season: Lancaster Football Team’s 7-on-7 Scrimmage

As the official start to practice approaches, the Lancaster football team is working hard to get ready for the upcoming season. With the first day of practice set for August 1, the Golden Gales have been focusing on both their offensive and defensive strategies through various training sessions.

One of the key events in their preparation was a 7-on-7 passing scrimmage held at Ohio University on July 21 against Hilliard Davidson. This marked the third and final passing scrimmage of the summer for the team. While Lancaster is traditionally known as a run-first team, the scrimmage provided an opportunity for the players to focus on their passing game and compete in a controlled environment.

The event took place at Peden Stadium, where the team showcased their enthusiasm and intensity. The players made several impactful plays on both sides of the ball, demonstrating their readiness for the season ahead. For quarterback Brody Burke, a three-year starter, the scrimmage offered a different experience compared to an actual game. It allowed him and the other players to work on their passing game and understand defensive coverages better.

Burke, who passed for over 1,000 yards last season, believes that the team will be even stronger in the pass game this year. He noted that as a third-year starter, he has gained a better understanding of the game and the offense. The summer workouts have helped the team take steps forward, improving their overall performance and teamwork.

Another standout player during the scrimmage was senior tight end/linebacker Landon Knoch. Known for his leadership, Knoch was vocal throughout the event and made several key plays, including a leaping interception. His passion for the game was evident, and he emphasized the importance of teamwork and competition.

“This is a great opportunity for us to work together as a team,” Knoch said. “I love my team, and this is a special group of guys. Being out here, you just want to compete, compete, compete. It’s even better when you make a play and you have your teammates to celebrate with you.”

Knoch also highlighted the team’s underdog status and how it fuels their motivation. The team has put in extra work to build chemistry and prepare for the challenges ahead. They are eager to start the season and prove their capabilities on the field.

Upcoming Scrimmages and Schedule

Before the season begins, the Gales will have two more scrimmages at home. The first one is scheduled for August 8 against Independence at 6 p.m., followed by another against St. Charlles on August 14 at the same time. The season will officially kick off on August 22 with a road game against Hilliard Darby. The first home game is set for August 29 against Dublin Scioto.

With the team showing dedication and improvement, the anticipation for the upcoming season is high. The players are focused on building on their strengths and overcoming any challenges they may face. Their commitment to training and teamwork is evident, and they are ready to make their mark on the field.
