The East Coast boasts numerous top-tier beaches globally; however, once you’ve had your fill of popular yet congested spots such as Cape Cod, Myrtle Beach, and South Beach, venturing farther north will lead you to discover quieter alternatives.
New Hampshire has been deemed the safest state in the USA.
In 2024, Seabrook Beach’s hidden gem, Sandy Sanctuary, provides just the sort of worry-free getaway you’ve been looking for.
This appealing 1.5-mile stretch of coastline lies adjacent to the town of Seabrook and is known as the “Entrance to New Hampshire.” With under 1,000 residents living in Seabrook Beach, most waterfront residences are either permanent dwellings or vacation rentals. Due to the absence of amenities like bathrooms along the water’s edge, it attracts less foot traffic compared to neighboring shores; however, careful preparation can make this pristine strip of sand an idyllic spot for a day trip.
Travelers coming from Logan International Airport should follow Highway 1 out of Boston and merge onto I-95 heading north before exiting towards Route 286 near the coastline. This journey typically takes slightly more than an hour door-to-door. Alternatively, those arriving at Portsmouth International Airport have about a half-hour ride down I-95 followed by a short stretch on Route 101 toward Hampton Beach. Yet, your destination shouldn’t end here; continue past the bridge to discover what’s considered the most secluded gem along the New Hampshire shoreline, tucked away beyond rows of seaside cottages. For optimal enjoyment, consider reserving one of several vacation homes available along Ocean Boulevard for easier access to private parking spots, beaches, and less crowded roads. Nonetheless, staying at a hotel within Seabrook remains convenient as well—just a ten-minute trip from the shore.

The sand dunes cover the southern part of the region, making this an excellent location for hiking and discovery.
In the seaside community of Seabrook, you will discover various shops, eateries, and economical lodging options should you choose not to stay in a beachfront rental property. Parking along the shoreline is restricted; only local residents holding permits may do so. However, this doesn’t hinder having a fantastic time away from direct beachside lodgings. You can circumvent these regulations by driving up to Harborside Park and then strolling for under 15 minutes until reaching the designated pathway leading down to the shore. Pack everything essential—such as children, folding chairs, blankets, treats, hydration supplies—and load them onto a wheeled cart for simpler transportation when heading out. Keep pets indoors during high tourist seasons between Memorial Day and early October due to potential horsefly invasions caused by nearby wetlands. Don’t forget to pack insect repellent within your beach essentials to ward off those bothersome insects buzzing about throughout summertime.
Convenient picnic spots are great during midday, but should you prefer facilities nearby, a short five-minute stroll leads you to Overboard Pub & Grill where you can enjoy sandwiches and seafood dishes along with gluten-free choices (and of course, they provide restrooms for guests). Just around the corner lies Ceal’s Clam Stand, offering another delicious choice for both lunch and dinner; their menu features an array of items.

Paddle in Tranquil, Shoreline Seas
On the opposite side of the inlet lies a vibrant harbor with an adjacent park where you can observe fishing vessels arriving; however, the waters at Seabrook Beach offer a peaceful ambiance that contrasts sharply with the crowdedness typical of other coastal shores. Despite being a favored spot for surfing due to beginner-friendly waves, the area remains rather laid-back. The water temperature near the shoreline stays pleasant between 64-70°F during summertime but drops significantly to around 36-39°F in winter, prompting visitors to wear thermal gear then. Although these waters are generally quite placid, they lack lifeguard supervision. Therefore, ensure you always have company while swimming to guarantee a worry-free and enjoyable time at the beach.
Seabrook Beach offers a picturesque retreat that Family Destinations Guide ranked among the top 100 secret beaches in the U.S. In contrast to well-known spots such as Cape Cod, which are regarded as some of the

, Seabrook is just three hours north along the coastline and provides equally magnificent ocean vistas and breathtaking sunset scenes across the Atlantic, without the summer tourist throngs. As Bruce Brown, who owns Brown’s Lobster Pound locally, mentioned

During those summer nights, when the sunset casts its glow and the tide rises over the marshland, it’s simply breathtaking. Many prefer to relax and savor the view.
