France Canyon Fire Engulfs Over 2,100 Acres in Treacherous Terrain Near Bryce Woodlands

The France Canyon Fire has consumed over 2,159 acres of land near Bryce Woodlands.

On Monday, crews kept up their efforts to suppress the flames, yet the fire is still 0% contained.

As stated by the U.S. Forest Service, the fire is raging in an area with “extremely challenging topography,” which adds significant difficulties for the firefighting efforts.

The Forest Service predicts that fire activity will intensify and has warned residents and visitors to anticipate smoke around Bryce Canyon National Park, Ruby’s Inn, the Bryce Valley region, as well as Escalante, Utah.

Moreover, the Bryce Woodlands neighborhood remains vigilant should the fire spread further south.

The Forest Service stated that no other communities or structures are at risk.

At the location, there are 180 individuals present, which includes five elite firefighting teams, four fire trucks, two helicopter units specialized in initial attack response, one Type Two hand crew, numerous helicopters, and an airplane.

The Forest Service stated that around six more teams should arrive within the coming few days.

Closure: A region within the National Forest System territory defined by boundaries including Forest Road 109 (known as Proctor Canyon road) to the north, extending down from and across Forest Road 091 towards the southeast until meeting with Forest Road 087 (referred to as East Fork Road). It continues further south via Forest Road 105 (identified as Kanab Creek road) moving toward the southwest where it connects with Forest Road 106 (labeled Right Fork) up to ATV Trail 33003. The boundary loops around again following Forest Road 233 (also known as Skunk Creek road) all the way back to Forest Road 109 (Proctor Canyon road) forming the closure’s perimeter.

Forest Road 087 (East Fork) will stay accessible.
