NEW YORK (

) – A giant lobster with a long history is now making waves in a different way.
Due to a special event and the generosity of those involved, Lorenzo, the impressive 21-pound, 110-year-old lobster, has been released back into the ocean.
On Thursday, Peter’s Clam Bar in Hempstead, Long Island, celebrated both National Lobster Day and Father’s Day by releasing Lorenzo back into nature.

Butch Yamali, who owns Peter’s Clam Bar, recounted how Lorenzo became intertwined with the eatery’s narrative. “Lorenzo somehow fell between the cracks and wound up staying in our tank for years,” he explained.
Yamali explained that Lorenzo had become a fixture at the establishment.
“A number of these lobsters don’t have very long lives, but this particular lobster survived longer. We thought why not use this as an opportunity to mark Father’s Day by setting Lorenzo free. Over time, he turned into something akin to a pet for us. Visitors would stop by to catch sight of him and snap photos alongside him; essentially, he had become part of the storefront attractions.”
The festivities received official backing after Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and Nassau County Legislator John Ferreti teamed up to advocate for Lorenzo’s pardon and return to the wilderness.

This incident mirrors a previous tale involving Lenny, a massive lobster that the eatery notably released back into nature, thus maintaining their custom of offering these ancient shellfish a renewed opportunity to live.
When queried about whether Lorenzo would be missed, Yamali responded, “He will certainly be missed, yet I believe this outcome is for the best. Should he have passed away here, it wouldn’t be ideal, and I wouldn’t have had the courage to sell him.”
Just like that, Lorenzo found himself back at the Atlantic Beach Reef—reunited with the open ocean, his true home once more.
